Packing for a Hike
As spring time brings warmer weather back to most of the country, many people start up new outdoor hobbies like hiking. And while packing for a hike may sound as simple as throwing a couple Cliff Bars in a backpack, experienced backpackers will tell you it’s not as simple as that.
Packing for a day hike is all about striking a balance between what you think you need and what you can carry. No matter what part of the country you’re in, during the summer, you’ll definitely want to pack rain gear.
Experts usually suggest bringing more food and water than you think you’ll need. High protein snacks like Brazil Nuts should be mixed in with candies like M&M’s for a quick energy snack. And while sports drinks like Gatorade sound appealing, there’s really no substitute for plain, old water for re hydration.
Proper footwear is absolutely crucial when heading out to the trail. Have your shoes properly broken in and waterproofed before you ever set foot on a trail. The back country is no place to break in a pair of shoes.
There’s nothing like the feeling you get hiking down a trail, munching on some Pistachios and enjoying the beauty of nature.
